RESEARCH MOTIVATION
The intelligent Internet-of-Things (IoT) is undergoing a transformative change with advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-dimensional data analysis. The shift from “connected things” to “connected intelligence” will unlock the full potential of intelligent IoT, leading to a variety of exciting applications. However, these envisioned applications also introduce various new challenges, such as low spectrum efficiency, limited coverage area, restricted functional interaction, etc. To address these challenges, there is an emerging need to integrate machine learning technologies into designing, planning, and optimizing future wireless communications. Driven by the emerging need for “sensing - transmission - service”, three novel IoT technologies: smart spectrum cognition, intelligent reflecting communication, and intelligent integrated sensing and communication are investigated to facilitate the road to smart radio environments.
